Movies are the new Eucharist
Art contains ambiguity and generates the transcendence of the One that is Two
Creativity(or violence) arises when a single situation or idea is perceived in two self-consistent but habitually incompatible frames of reference. Arthur Koestle
______
In Art, in a single situation, the movie, for instance, an Idea is perceived in two self-consistent but habitually incompatible points of view.
In Killing Eve, for instance, who is Villanelle? Is she a saint or sinner? Is she a savior or a psychopath? Is the apple in the Garden, good or bad? Creativity or the Joy of Being arises in a single movie where the hero is ambiguous, and you cannot choose what he/she is.
In the confusion, the ambiguity triggers a shift. I AM Villanelle! In The Avatar and the Voyage to Pandora we have the same ambiguity: who is Jake Sully? Is Jake Sully's journey my adventure? Je Suis Jake Sully?
The movie induces "aesthetic arrest" where the Great Shift happens and you transcend the consistencies and conflicts in your own nature through the mediation of the Hero.
Why go to church? You can find Jesus in any movie and be reborn. With popcorn too.
